OmicSpace Data Space Rulebook

The governance framework that makes OmicSpace a unique and trustworthy data space.

rulebook2

The OmicSpace Data Space Rulebook is the strategic document that defines how the federated omics data space is built, governed and expanded. It compiles the principles, agreements, roles and operational processes that ensure an ethical, secure, interoperable and EU-aligned environment for clinical and omics data.

Unlike traditional data initiatives, OmicSpace provides a complete and actionable Rulebook, inspired by the Fair Data Economy, which enables new nodes to join efficiently through:

01

A clear and structured onboarding process, with well-defined agreements.

02

Unified legal and technical requirements that minimise integration effort.

03

A transparent governance model that fosters institutional trust.

04

A validated and interoperable framework that ensures immediate compatibility with the metadata catalogue and federated architecture.

This Rulebook reinforces OmicSpace as a replicable, scalable and sustainable data space, delivering consistency in omics data management and offering a strong competitive advantage for any organisation wishing to participate in a secure, reliable and future-ready health data ecosystem.

Contents of the Rulebook

The OmicSpace Data Space Rulebook brings together all the essential components required to operate within a federated data space in a secure, consistent and EU-aligned manner. Its structure provides a shared framework that ensures trust, interoperability and robust governance across all participating organizations.

It includes:

      1. General Principles and Data Access Conditions – Guidelines that define how clinical and omics data are accessed, used and protected within the federated ecosystem.
      2. Roles and Responsibilities within the OmicSpace Ecosystem Clear definition of participating actors and their assigned functions and responsibilities.
      3. CDigital Capabilities Offered by OmicSpace – Description of the various services and digital capabilities available to OmicSpace participants.
      4. General Terms and Conditions Legal and procedural conditions that harmonize participation and ensure consistent operation of the space.Legal and procedural conditions that harmonize participation and ensure consistent operation of the space.
      5. Constitutive Agreement Foundational document establishing the creation, purpose, and operational framework of the data space.
      6. Data Space Governance ModelStructure regulating decision-making, oversight, coordination, and accountability within the ecosystem.
      7. Membership Agreement for New Participants Standardized process that facilitates the secure and efficient onboarding of new organizations into OmicSpace.
      8. List of Members and Nodes Updated record of all entities and nodes forming part of the OmicSpace federated network..
      9. Data Sharing Agreement Framework ensuring responsible, secure, and traceable data exchange among participating nodes.

This set of documents guarantees that all participating organizations operate under a solid, ethical, secure, verifiable, and shared framework, enabling reliable collaboration and sustainable growth of the ecosystem.
